Good evening ma'am/sir, on 26 of July Wednesday me and my squad went to Nan Chiau high school to listen to a talk by a professional police officer. It was about SG secure focusing on what we can do when a terrorism strike Singapore. Now it is not a if it is about when. When it would happen to Singapore and what should we do to protect ourselves. The main action we can conduct is run hide and tell. Running away from the terrorist sight and hiding to not let them realize us. Lastly after we get into a safe place, we should report the situation to the police. There is three methods to contact the police. According to the situation if we are safe enough we can call the police and tell them about what is happening and if possible to catch a glimpse of the terrorist describe about their appearance. Example, what are they wearing, build or Any special appearance on them like tattoo or mole take not of the details. Second way of contacting can be SMS 71999 if it is not safe to talk provide details of the locations and the attackers. Otherwise use the SG secure app to provide more information, photos and videos to police. Most importantly in the event of an attack. Do not post or update anything on social media. Always stay calm and do not spread rumors. When running away from danger see if it is possible to care and help anyone along the way.since I have learn first aid if possible and if I am brave and confident enough to help the injured I can do my part in helping them out conducting first aid like bandaging if needed. Also something to note is when running and hiding from the terrorist being the last person that enter the room it is our job the close the door and lock it. But with a caring personality some people might be afraid that there is someone behind and also want to come in and hind. The best that we can do is when running into the room to hind take a glimpse and see if there is any victim behind you. If not just close the door and lock it. All these are basic knowledge of protecting oneself during a terrorist attack. Although when someone is panicking and cannot remember everything we should always try our best to stay calm. Also about this reflection that suppose to be sent. I feel that it was not a good timing for us to write and submit the reflection. One of the squad mate told at the late night and people could have already be resting or busy with the family time.Overall the event was fine and fun cause we get to learn stuff that we didn't know. Thank you. Putri, 12th Batch
Last Friday our squad was not training together. Some of us went for the recollection and some of us went for the NDP parade rehearsals. I was a part of the NDP parade and this is what I learnt. During parade, we needed values like discipline, teamwork and resilience. We also needed soft skills like communication. Discipline played a major role as we had to be quiet at our form up point (FUP). We also had to be disciplined enough to stop our squad mates from talking and not join them. Not only that, we required teamwork. Teamwork was also a major value as we needed to work together to march as a squad. During belok, we had to be together and the leading column had to slow down for the rest of us. During belok was when I understood the importance of communication and teamwork. We had to communicate such that we turned as a column and we were at our own markings. We needed resilience. Resilience was something I never had in me. I always gave up when it was getting tough. The saying, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going," never applied to me. I was tired and my heels were hurting. I wasn't feeling my best but when my squad mates mentioned that we were never alone and that we were together, a rush of adrenaline went thorough my body and I told myself, "Do this for squad/contingent." I marched with gusto and felt proud that I could be a part of parade. Not only that, I am a part of NDO too so, rehearsal for NDP parade really helped me instill resilience. At the end of training, I knew I didn't do my best. I knew that major improvements could be made. I could tell I didn't do my best because Brandon Sir was always saying turn when i turn. I, for one, am always determined to leave a good impression on people. I strive to get my belok right not only for parade, but so that I can feel satisfied with myself. That is all.
